Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing is the most common style of editing within the media industry. The main aim of this type of editing is to make the work of the editor as invisible as possible, in order to make the audience forget they are watching a film/tv show, and allow them to become fully immersed in the programme. The viewer should not notice the changes between cuts, and therefore make the viewing continuous. The central elements are, establishing shot, shot/reverse shot, eye line match, the 180 degree rule, the 30 degree rule and cutting on action.
